Removals to Turin from the UK

The first Italian city off the mountain, and the easiest to deliver into

Turin is the first major city a UK load reaches after the Alps, and by some distance the most straightforward Italian city to deliver into. The centre is a grid of wide boulevards laid out under the Savoys, with courtyard buildings, arcades and — crucially — room for a vehicle.

That makes it a comparatively calm arrival, which is welcome after the Fréjus tunnel.

Getting to the door

A grid, not a maze

The nineteenth-century centre is regular, wide and navigable. There is a limited traffic zone in the core, but it is less restrictive than Florence or Rome and permits are generally workable.

Courtyards you can drive into

Turin blocks open onto substantial internal courtyards through carriage entrances. Where the building allows a vehicle in, the carry is short. Many do.

Older lifts, higher ceilings

Ceilings in the historic centre are tall, which is generous for furniture and awkward for lifts — a retrofitted cage in a grand stairwell is still a cage. We measure it.

The arrival leg

How a load reaches Turin

Straight off the A32 from the Fréjus tunnel onto the tangenziale, then into the city on a boulevard wide enough to take a full-size vehicle. Most Turin addresses are reachable without a shuttle.

Who moves to Turin

Engineering and automotive professionals, university staff, and a rising number of people priced out of Milan who have noticed that Turin is an hour away by train and considerably cheaper.

Winter at the tunnel

Turin loads come through the Fréjus, which closes for weather and maintenance from time to time. Every winter booking has the Ligurian coast route planned as a fallback, and we check the crossing again before the vehicle leaves the UK.

Before Turin, there is the rest of the journey

Everything up to the Italian border is the same for every destination on this site: collection at your UK address, export packing, the Channel crossing and the run through France. The route page sets that out in full, including which Alpine crossing suits which part of Italy.

The paperwork is the same too — a customs declaration, a detailed inventory and Transfer of Residence relief on your own used belongings. That is covered on the customs page. France appears on this site only as transit; if France is your destination rather than your motorway, our sister site france-removals.co.uk covers that corridor.

Moving to Turin — your questions

Is Turin easier than Milan or Rome?

For access, considerably. Wide streets, courtyards a vehicle can enter, and a less restrictive limited-traffic zone. It is the easiest of the major Italian cities to deliver a household into.

How does the load get there?

Through the Fréjus tunnel from Modane, onto the A32, and into the city. Turin is the first stop off the mountain, which also makes it a natural consolidation point for loads continuing south.

What happens if the tunnel is shut?

We take the Ligurian coast route through Ventimiglia instead. It is longer and it is never closed for snow, so it is the planned alternative on every winter booking.
