Removals to Puglia from the UK
The long haul south, and trulli with doorways to match
The arrival leg
Down the A14 along the Adriatic through Bologna, Ancona and Pescara to Bari, then the SS16 or the SS379 for the coast and the SS172 up into the Valle d'Itria.
Puglia is the longest mainland drive we do in Italy — the whole length of the peninsula after an already long run through France. It is also one of the fastest-growing destinations on our book, and the housing stock is genuinely unlike anywhere else.
Trulli have doorways built for a different century. Masserie sit at the end of long white drives. The baroque towns of the Salento have streets that suit a scooter.
What the last mile does to a vehicle
- Trullo doorways
- A restored trullo is charming and its openings are small and often irregular. Large furniture frequently does not go in, and that is worth knowing while you are still deciding what ships rather than after it has travelled fifteen hundred miles.
- Masseria drives
- Long, straight, white and usually fine — until the gate posts, which were positioned before anybody owned a Luton. We measure them from photographs before committing a vehicle.
- Old-town streets
- Ostuni, Locorotondo, Cisternino and the Lecce centro storico are all pedestrian in practice. Deliveries are shuttles from outside, and in Ostuni they are shuttles uphill.
Who moves to Puglia
Restoration buyers, predominantly — people who have bought a trullo or a masseria and are furnishing it — plus a growing number of full relocations to Lecce and the coast now that the flights and the fibre have both improved.
Before Puglia, there is the rest of the journey
Everything up to the Italian border is the same for every destination on this site: collection at your UK address, export packing, the Channel crossing and the run through France. The route page sets that out in full, including which Alpine crossing suits which part of Italy.
The paperwork is the same too — a customs declaration, a detailed inventory and Transfer of Residence relief on your own used belongings. That is covered on the customs page. France appears on this site only as transit; if France is your destination rather than your motorway, our sister site france-removals.co.uk covers that corridor.
Moving to Puglia — your questions
Will my furniture fit in a trullo?
Some of it, probably not all. The openings are small and often irregular. Send us door and window measurements before the load is finalised — we would much rather leave a wardrobe in the UK than carry it to Puglia and back.
How long is the drive?
It is the longest mainland Italian run we do, the full length of the peninsula after France. That means proper driver rest built into the schedule, and it means booking earlier than a northern Italian move.
Do you deliver to Lecce and the Salento?
Yes, regularly. The historic centre is pedestrian in practice so deliveries are shuttles from outside the walls, which is planned rather than improvised.
Getting a quote for Puglia
Send the UK address, the Italian one and a rough room list. The access at the far end shapes the quote more than the distance does.
