Removals to Sardinia from the UK
A long sailing, and a booking that has to be made early
Sardinia is a sea crossing rather than a short hop, and the sailing shapes the whole job. Vehicles go from Genoa, Livorno or Civitavecchia to Olbia, Porto Torres or Cagliari, and the crossing is long enough that it counts as a leg of the journey in its own right.
Because sailings are limited and seasonal demand is fierce, a Sardinian move is booked around the ferry rather than the other way round.

Through the Alps or along the Ligurian coast to Genoa or Livorno, then a booked sailing to the island, and regional roads from the port to the property.

What shapes a delivery to Sardinia
The sailing sets the date
Space for a removal vehicle on a Sardinian crossing is finite, particularly in summer. We book the sailing as part of arranging the move, and the delivery date follows from it.
Port to property
Roads on the island are good and traffic is light, so the leg from the port is usually the easiest part of the whole journey. Coastal developments and rural properties both tend to have room to work.
Rural and coastal access
Inland stone houses and coastal villas both frequently sit at the end of an unmade track. Same rule as the mainland: satellite first, photographs second, vehicle chosen from what is actually there.
Summer is the wrong time to book late
Ferry capacity in July and August is taken early and taken seriously. A Sardinian move in the summer months needs arranging well ahead; outside them, the sailings are far easier and the whole job is calmer.
Who moves to Sardinia
Second-home owners on the Costa Smeralda and the north coast, permanent movers to Cagliari and the south, and a smaller group restoring stone houses inland — a quieter and considerably cheaper proposition than the coast.
Before Sardinia, there is the rest of the journey
Everything up to the Italian border is the same for every destination on this site: collection at your UK address, export packing, the Channel crossing and the run through France. The route page sets that out in full, including which Alpine crossing suits which part of Italy.
The paperwork is the same too — a customs declaration, a detailed inventory and Transfer of Residence relief on your own used belongings. That is covered on the customs page. France appears on this site only as transit; if France is your destination rather than your motorway, our sister site france-removals.co.uk covers that corridor.
Moving to Sardinia — your questions
How do belongings reach Sardinia?
By road to Genoa, Livorno or Civitavecchia, then on a booked ferry with the vehicle, then by road from the port to your address. The load stays on the same vehicle throughout.
Why does the ferry affect the date so much?
Because space for a commercial vehicle on a Sardinian sailing is limited and, in summer, booked well ahead. We arrange the crossing as part of the job and the delivery date follows from the sailing we can get.
Is the island itself easy to deliver into?
Generally yes. The roads are good and traffic is light. The usual caveat applies to rural properties at the end of a track, which we check on satellite before committing a vehicle.
Getting a quote for Sardinia
Send the UK address, the Italian one and a rough room list. The access at the far end shapes the quote more than the distance does.
